Lebanese MP Fouad Makhzoumi has issued a strong condemnation of Hezbollah following the recent Israeli strike in Beirut, calling urgently for decisive action and accountability.

Makhzoumi took to social media Sunday to express his deep concern over the latest violence hitting Lebanon’s capital. “Beirut was struck today,” he wrote. “Our city, already burdened by years of crises, is once again at the center of danger. This strike is not just an attack on Beirut, but a blow to all of Lebanon.”

He criticized Hezbollah, the powerful armed group in Lebanon, accusing them of dragging the country to the brink of further confrontation. Makhzoumi highlighted Hezbollah’s recent provocative actions, including public threats of rockets, drones, and military operations. “At a time when Lebanon desperately needs protection and stability, Hezbollah’s provocations only fuel tensions,” he said.

Importantly, Makhzoumi made clear that mere words or condemnations would no longer suffice. “We need actions, not words,” he insisted, urging the Lebanese government to implement long-standing plans to bring all weapons under state control — including those held by Hezbollah. These plans, established earlier this year on August 5 and 7, are supported by the international community, notably Saudi Arabia and the United States.

“The world is ready to help Lebanon,” Makhzoumi added, “and now Lebanon must prove it is capable of responsible decisions to protect its people and sovereignty. The time for action has come.”

The Israeli strike in Beirut marked one of the most severe attacks on Lebanese soil since the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect last year. It targeted and killed Hezbollah military commander Ali Tabatabai in the heart of the city. Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, justified the attack by stating that previous efforts had failed to prevent Hezbollah from rearming.

The Prime Minister’s office confirmed the operation on social media, noting that the strike was ordered based on recommendations from the defense minister and Israel Defense Force’s chief of staff.

As tensions remain high, Lebanon faces mounting pressure both internally and externally to curb armed militias and restore state authority. We will continue to monitor this developing story.
