Escalating tensions between two nuclear-armed neighbors, India and Pakistan, following a series of cross-border military strikes.
India has confirmed it launched “Operation Sindoor” on Wednesday, targeting what it calls “terrorist infrastructure” inside Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir. According to India’s Defense Ministry, the strikes were carefully executed, focused, and non-escalatory — with no Pakistani military sites deliberately targeted.
Despite these assurances, the missile attacks struck multiple locations, including Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Tragically, a child was killed, and two civilians — a man and a woman — were injured when a mosque in Bahawalpur was hit, according to Pakistani officials.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has sharply condemned the attacks, calling them a “blatant act of war” and accusing India of violating Pakistani sovereignty by launching standoff weapons across the international border and the Line of Control. They warned that the strikes pose a grave risk to regional peace and even threaten international commercial air traffic.
The attacks come on the heels of a deadly April 22 assault in Indian-controlled Kashmir that left 26 people dead. India blames Pakistan for backing that militant attack, an accusation Islamabad has repeatedly denied. In response to the latest strikes, Pakistan warned that India’s actions have brought the two nations dangerously close to major conflict.
U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to the breaking news from the White House, saying, “It’s a shame… I just hope it ends very quickly.” He acknowledged the long-standing historical tensions between India and Pakistan, which date back to their independence from Britain in 1947 and the ongoing dispute over Kashmir.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement on social media, affirming that he is closely monitoring the situation and is working to engage both sides toward a peaceful resolution.
Adding to the tensions, a spokesman for Pakistan’s army, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif, told local media that the missiles were launched from Indian territory without Indian aircraft crossing into Pakistani airspace. He condemned the attack as a “cowardly strike” against innocent civilians under the cover of night.
This latest military escalation raises fears of a wider regional conflict between two countries that have fought multiple wars and continue to hold vast military presences in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
We at SNEWS TV will continue to monitor the situation closely and bring you updates as they develop.
