In a dramatic escalation of Middle East tensions, Israel has launched a sweeping military operation inside Iran — targeting dozens of strategic sites, including facilities linked to Iran’s nuclear program.
The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed tonight that Operation Rising Lion struck what it calls “critical infrastructure” tied to Iran’s nuclear development and military capabilities. The move, Israeli officials say, was prompted by intelligence suggesting that Iran had made significant progress toward building nuclear weapons — a development they deemed an existential threat.
According to Israeli estimates, Iran now possesses enough enriched uranium to build several nuclear warheads.
Defense Minister Israel Katz described the attacks as “preemptive” and declared a national state of emergency. In a stark warning, Katz said Israel expects retaliatory missile and drone strikes from Iran in the immediate future. Within hours, air raid sirens were heard across Tel Aviv.
U.S. Not Involved in Israeli Operation
Despite the magnitude of this strike, the United States was not involved in the operation. Two American officials confirmed to SNEWS TV that Israel acted alone. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement acknowledging Israel’s action, emphasizing that the U.S. was not a participant and reaffirming the priority of protecting American personnel and bases in the region.
Rubio said, “Israel took unilateral action for its self-defense. The United States has taken all necessary measures to protect its forces and will not tolerate attacks on American interests.”
Netanyahu: “We Had No Choice”
In a video address Thursday night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the strike, saying Iran’s acceleration of its nuclear efforts left Israel with no alternative.
“This is a clear and present danger to Israel’s survival,” he said. “Iran is closer than ever to building a nuclear weapon — perhaps within months. We could not wait.”
The Diplomatic Clock Stops
The strikes come just days before planned nuclear talks between U.S. and Iranian officials were set to resume in Oman. President Trump had reiterated his commitment to a diplomatic resolution earlier Thursday, posting online, “Iran could be a great nation — but only if it gives up its pursuit of nuclear weapons.”
Iran Responds: “We Will Rebuild”
Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking just hours before the Israeli strikes, made clear that his country would not abandon its nuclear program. “We will continue enrichment,” he said defiantly. “And if our facilities are bombed, we will rebuild them with our own people. This country will not be broken.”
As of now, Iran’s military response has not materialized, but military analysts warn that retaliation is likely. The region remains on high alert.
U.S. Prepared for Contingency
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, speaking before Congress, acknowledged the gravity of the situation, saying, “Prime Minister Netanyahu is doing what he believes is necessary for his nation. We’re doing the same. Our forces are prepared for any contingency.”
As events unfold, the world now watches to see whether this bold military move ignites a wider regional conflict — or halts a nuclear threat before it fully materializes.
