Europe Mobilizes Troops Swiftly in Greenland as Trump targets Control. By Lisa Lomami.

European troops have rapidly deployed to Greenland as the United States, under the Trump administration, eyes control of the strategically vital Arctic territory.

Troops from France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, and the United Kingdom are currently on the ground in Greenland for a swift two-day mission aimed at strengthening defenses and military readiness in the region. This joint exercise, known as Operation Arctic Endurance, is intended to demonstrate the ability of these nations to deploy forces quickly in response to growing geopolitical tensions in the Arctic.

According to the Danish Ministry of Defense, this increased military presence is a coordinated effort between Denmark — which governs Greenland — and NATO allies to train under the unique and challenging Arctic conditions. The operation includes aircraft, naval vessels, and soldiers working together to protect critical infrastructure and support local authorities, including the Greenlandic police.

Germany has sent a reconnaissance team of 13 personnel, France has deployed 15 mountain specialists, while Sweden, Norway, and Britain have sent smaller officer contingents. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson confirmed on social media that Swedish forces are part of this allied effort, responding to Denmark’s request to prepare for further steps in the operation.

The deployment comes amid mounting concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration pushing to acquire Greenland, a move Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described as “serious” and warned efforts are underway to prevent such a takeover.

This issue was brought into sharper focus during high-level meetings at the White House on Wednesday, where Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Greenlandic Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance to discuss the situation.

The Arctic’s strategic importance has never been greater, with climate change opening new maritime routes and vast natural resources coming within reach. This heightened military cooperation in Greenland underscores the region’s increasing significance for both European and transatlantic security interests.

We will continue monitoring this developing story. For now, European forces remain in Greenland for their short-term mission, signaling a firm stand against any unilateral moves in the Arctic.
