Elon Musk deletes controversial tweets about Trump and Epstein records by Katy Moore.

In a stunning reversal, tech billionaire Elon Musk has quietly deleted a series of explosive posts accusing former President Donald Trump of being linked to the late Jeffrey Epstein. The now-vanished messages were part of a fiery public feud between Musk and the former president that’s taken a dramatic turn.

On Thursday, Musk posted on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming, quote, “@RealDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public.” He added, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”

But just as quickly as the claims appeared, they vanished. Online users were quick to notice that Musk had deleted the posts, along with another message where he agreed with a call to impeach Trump and replace him with Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.

The escalating spat follows what was once a close political alliance. Musk had previously donated over $270 million to Trump’s campaign and even led the Department of Government Efficiency—DOGE—under the Trump administration. Their recent falling-out stems in part from Musk’s criticism of Trump’s flagship “Big Beautiful Bill,” which Musk claims will balloon the national deficit by over $2.5 trillion.

In response to Musk’s allegations, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the claims as “an unfortunate episode” driven by Musk’s disappointment over policy disagreements. A source close to the administration also stated that Trump had long ago distanced himself from Epstein, even expelling him from his private club in Palm Beach.

As for the Epstein files themselves, much remains sealed. Earlier this year, Attorney General Pam Bondi pointed to delays from an FBI field office in New York in releasing the full case file. While around 200 pages have been handed over—far fewer than those released in a related civil suit—the crucial client list remains under review, Bondi said in February.

What has been released includes flight logs, evidence summaries, and a partially redacted list of alleged victims. Some names listed have never faced accusations, while others, like Prince Andrew and deceased modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, remain tied to the case. Epstein, his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, and others are accused of running a trafficking ring that targeted young women, including minors, from 1996 until Epstein’s death in 2019.

Maxwell, currently serving time in federal prison, is appealing her conviction and is scheduled for release in 2037.

As for Elon Musk, his deleted posts continue to spark speculation—and raise questions about what’s behind the sudden shift in tone.
