Election‑fraud claims spurred deadly battles in Douala where four people were killed. By Ehud Jones.

Violence has erupted in Cameroon’s largest city, Douala, where opposition claims of election fraud have sparked deadly clashes with security forces. At least four people have been killed, and more than a hundred have been arrested, as protestors demand answers over what they call a “stolen vote.”

Barricades burned across major neighborhoods, while gunfire rang out in the streets. Residents describe scenes of chaos as authorities confronted demonstrators, leaving parts of the city paralyzed.

Opposition supporters, led by Issa Tchiroma Bakary, have accused the government of rigging the election and are calling for transparent and credible results.

The unrest has fueled fear throughout Douala, with citizens fearing further violence as tensions remain high. Although clashes have eased slightly in recent days, sporadic incidents were still reported as of October 28th, showing the fragility of the situation.

International observers and local human rights organizations are calling for calm and urging both security forces and protestors to avoid further escalation, warning that continued unrest could threaten stability in Cameroon’s economic hub.
