Deadly clashes erupt in Douala following fierce accusations of election fraud by the opposition.
Protests erupted across Douala as opposition supporters led by Issa Tchiroma Bakary took to the streets, denouncing what they call a “stolen vote.” Barricades went up and burned, while gunfire echoed through the city’s neighborhoods, plunging the area into chaos.
At least four people have lost their lives amid the violence, and over a hundred have been arrested during the unrest. Residents describe scenes of fear and paralysis as the city grappled with the turmoil. Neighborhoods were brought to a standstill as anger and frustration spread rapidly.
The opposition demands transparency and accountability in the election process, claiming the results were manipulated. While tensions have somewhat eased in recent days, the situation remains highly unstable. Sporadic clashes were still reported as of October 28th, leaving the community on edge.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and bring you updates as they develop.
